Beginner Lights

For dancers with little or no experience, want extra practise, or a class with more simple footwork - we'll be going over the basics for light shoes, learning some traditional dances, and combining what you learn from these into a more modern style dance (both group and individual).

Beginner Heavies

For those with lights experience and are ready to learn more, or have experience with similar styles like tap. We'll be going over the basics for heavy shoes, learning some traditional dances, and combining what you learn from these into a more modern style dance (both group and individual).

Ceili

For all our dancers, learning traditional ceili dances. This is a wonderful class for our beginners and inter+ dancers to learn a new ceili dance each week while having a bit of fun. There's no experience needed for this class, so you're welcome to come along to this even if you're not a regular at our other classes.

Dance Fitness

Ever wanted to try zumba but with Irish dance steps? That's kinda what our dance fitness class is like. We'll be focusing on a different Irish dance technique each week, mixing it with fitness steps and ideal stretches for that technique, all with a range of music to keep you on your toes. There's no experience needed for this class, so you're welcome to come along to this even if you're not a regular at our other classes.

Inter+ Lights

For dancers with both lights experience, or are advanced in other styles like ballet. It might have been a while since you've danced, or you're carrying on with us after leaving uni or moving away from competitions, or you've been with us for a while and are ready to step up the difficulty! Please note that we'll not be doing super advanced dances in this class to keep it accessible.

Inter+ Heavies

For dancers with heavies experience, or are advanced in other styles like tap. It might have been a while since you've danced, or you're carrying on with us after leaving uni or moving away from competitions, or you've been with us for a while and are ready to step up the difficulty! Please note that we'll not be doing super advanced dances in this class to keep it accessible.

Quick Step

A 30 minute online class to learn a short step, great for showing off at parties when someone asks you to do a wee dance! This class assumes experience with Irish Dancing.

Dance in a Night

A special 3 hour class for all levels to learn a full dance in one night, happening once a term. This class assumes experience with Irish Dancing.

Shoes

For the lights, ceili, and fitness classes, it's fine to wear trainers you're comfortable dancing in, or you can dance in your socks. For those who want to buy shoes, we recommend the ballet-like pumps worn by Festival dancers - these are split sole canvas shoes, like the ones seen here. If you already have light shoes from previous Irish Dancing we're happy for you to wear these too. For heavy shoe dances, any heavy shoes are fine to wear (such as these), though it can be much cheaper to find second hand heavies. You can wear trainers for heavy dancers, but we'll recommend you be more delicate with certain steps so you don't injure yourself. You can also buy split sole trainers, like these, which are a great alternative for practising and are worn by our teacher and dancers.
